Over the past few months there has been a huge amount of press coverage about cancer diagnosis and treatment in the UK. As a GP with a particular interest in cancer this has highlighted the need for everyone to be aware of the risks and signs of cancer since GPs cannot make an early referral if people do not present their symptoms.
1 in 2 people in the UK will develop cancer
On World Cancer Day 2015, Cancer Research UK announced that one in two people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime. The research, which is the most accurate forecast to date from work supported by the charity, was published in the British Journal of Cancer by Professor Peter Sasieni, based at Queen Mary University of London.
